I’ll keep this introduction short for several reasons. Partly because I’m still cheesed off that a selfish pub-goer thought it funny to steal my tasting notes while I was ordering a Guinness; partly because I’m typing this in my pants, about to head out to a very exciting meeting (more on that to come); but mainly because I’m sure you want as little waffle as possible between you and the Tesco wines that come highly recommended.
This Tesco press tasting was my first, it’s always a total pleasure to be exposed to a new range of wines and an honour, of course, to attend. On the day, I was taken aback by the complexity of some of their own label wines. This should come as no surprise, as supermarket buyers frequently work directly with wineries to produce these, and are usually where you can look for excellent value, especially as we start to stock up for the festive season (the cheapest wine I recommend is £4.75).
Below, eight wines so brilliant that they were bore into my memory for all time — tasting booklet or no tasting booklet.
Let’s get right into it, shall we?
